Tsering Dolma

Overcoming Childhood Adversity

As a 9-year-old, Tsering Dolma already had big ambitions. Going to school was her dream. But the chances of enjoying that basic right were remote. Her mother, a single parent, was gravely ill with a critical blood condition and kidney failure. Her life expectancy was grim. They barely existed on less than $1.25 a day. Tsering was destined for a childhood of domestic service.

Today, Tsering Dolma has a master’s degree from Delhi University. She was the first Lille Fro student to graduate high school. She finished Year 12 as head of her class, captain of her school and topped the State in her final exams.

In recognition of her outstanding results at school, Tsering Dolma received the Lille Fro Leadership Award and a scholarship to study at university in Delhi where she continued her academic success. The young girl whose only option in life was to leave school early to work a lifetimes of servitude, now holds a master’s degree.

Inspiring Future Generations

Tsering Dolma has another dream: to inspire impoverished children like herself to aim high, go to school and turn their lives around. Lille Fro is making that a reality for school kids across Ladakh.

The Lille Fro sponsorship program was initially intended to take our students through secondary school. However, many have already expressed a wish to go on to University encouraged by the example of our star graduate, Tsering Dolma.
