Little Seeds House, Lille Fro’s community hostel it is building in Zanskar, is the first of its kind in the region and will help address an urgent need.
In the remote Himalayan mountain regions of Ladakh, local schools rarely function and residential accommodation is scarce. Many parents are too poor to send their daughters and sons to boarding school in the capital Leh.
The reality is that children from low-income families often miss out on a basic education.
The hostel is being built close to the local public and private school network in Padum and will provide disability-inclusive accommodation and boarding facilities for up to 80 children. In an environment where geography, climate, and poverty are the biggest obstacles to a basic education, Little Seeds House will remove the barriers for marginalized, indigenous children.
These children include school kids who are living in extreme poverty or whose family’s earning potential is hindered due to sickness or disability. It also includes disadvantaged and vulnerable children who are disabled, orphaned, child laborers, or victims of domestic violence and abuse. Additionally, it supports children from remote villages where there is no functioning school.
It will also mean that children from the region can study close to home and will no longer have to risk their lives each year navigating the Ice River, the World’s Most Dangerous Walk to School.
Little Seeds House will give children from the remotest communities in Ladakh the opportunity to go to school, study, and learn the skills needed to improve their lives. By providing a safe and supportive environment, the hostel will help these children overcome the challenges posed by their harsh living conditions and limited access to education.
We are currently half-way through a 5 year build and are seeking donations to helping reach our funding milestones.
Please help support this tremendous project and deliver a sustainable resource for generations to come.
